Metopes of the Sikyonian Treasury at Delphi
Four of the fourteen metopes are preserved fairly well, and scraps of others remain. Names of figures were painted on the background. The compositions are ambitious: for example, the foreshortened horses in metope X, the receding planes of the cattle herds in metope x and the continuation of the ship Argo over two metopes xx see drawing.
Other subjects shown include a boar (possibly the Calydonian), Phrixos on the ram, Europa and bull. The Dioskouroi were worshipped at Sikyon, which may have influenced the choice of subject: they appear in metopes x and x, and possibly the boar hunt.
