CAVI Lemma: base of skyphos (Attic). From Poseidi, Sanctuary of Poseidon. Unattributed.
Beginning fifth (Vokotopoulou){1}.
CAVI Subject: No figured decoration preserved.
CAVI Inscriptions: On the bottom, a Gr.: according to Vokotopoulou, the entire Ionic alphabet
plus sampi. I could see in the ph.: from near the center, in a straight line to
the margin: α, β, Ionic γ, δ, ε. Then the letters turn left and go along the
margin, i.e., the row is retr., although the individual letters are not (note
the kappa); visible are: ι, κ, Ionic λ, μ, ν. The Gr. probably continues along
the margin; at the end I read: χ, stemles υ, ω, sampi.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} Vokotopoulou compares Sparkes–Talcott (1970), pl. 16/338-350, ca.
500-480, close to 480.
CAVI Comments: Poseidi is a promontory near Mende in the Chalcidice. Vokotopoulou thinks the
alphabet is dedicatory. The alphabet is Ionic and not Attic.
CAVI Number: 6837
