CAVI Lemma: Fr. of RF cup. From Athens. Euergides Painter{1}. Last quarter sixth.
CAVI Subject: Int.: dancer (hand with krotala){2}.
CAVI Inscriptions: Int.: along inside margin, to right of the hand, facing in: [Ευεργιδες?]
επο[ιεσεν]. Along outside of the tondo border: Ευερ[γιδες ανεθεκεν ---?].
CAVI Footnotes: {1} most probably (Beazley). {2} this and the letters επ[--] are on Acr. 107,
which joins.
CAVI Comments: + Acr. 107. The first inscription in widely spaced letters, the second closer
and in much smaller letters. The frs. put together by Beazley in AJA. There
Beazley agrees that Langlotz was right in suggesting a dedication for the second
inscription, since it is in the usual position for Gr. dedications; if not, he
thinks of combining the two inscriptions: Ευερ[γιδες] επο[ιεσεν], which I think
unlikely in view of the disparity in styles. Accepting the dedication, he says
that the name of the potter is lost, but it seems to me that this should be a
potter's dedication, hence the restoration of the name in the signature. Tailed
rho.
CAVI Number: 1279
