CAVI Inscriptions: A: to right of Zephyrus' forehead: καλε{2}. B: to left and right of the boy's
head: καλο(ς){3}. On his left, a pillar, on which kion., nonsense: ιλι(.).
CAVI Footnotes: {1} see ARV[2]: the figure on A may have a female breast and is inscribed
καλη [sic]; Smith 19, n. 28, suggests Eos and, on B, Tithonos. [Smith actually
suggested Cephalus.] See Sichtermann. Beazley wonders if Iris is possible and
refers to ARV[2] 416/5. Sichtermann considers this a Zephyros - Hyacinthos
replica of an Eos - Kephalos scene. Robertson thinks the pursuer is definitely
female; according to him, H.R.W. Smith sugested Eos pursuing Tithonos; Schefold
(1981), Chione, daughter of Boreas and Oreithyia. See also Naples inv. 126,057.
Robertson thinks Smith may be right. {2} so pl. 13a in Smith; in the text he
gives καλη. CVA has καλε, Attic. Beazley in ARV[2] has καλη with Attic lambda,
which would be mixed alphabet. {3} so CVA.
