Publication Record: Rotroff, S.I. and Lamberton, R.D., Women in the Athenian Agora (Athens, 2006): 31, FIG.34 (COLOUR OF LD AND PART OF BD) The Athenian Agora, Results of Excavations conducted by the American School of Classical Studies at Athens: 30, PL.101.1058 (LD, PART OF BD)
CAVI Lemma: BG pyxis with RF lid. From Athens, Agora Q 15:2. Unattributed. Late fifth
(Moore).
CAVI Subject: On the topside of the lid: a chest with the lid partially open.
CAVI Inscriptions: On the bottom of the lid, incised before firing and glazing: φ̣{1}. On the
underside of the pyxis, a similar Gr.: φρη.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} [Apparently a partial phi; but I read it formerly as Κ. In that case, the
Gr. on the pyxis would not match that on the lid and the two would not be a
pair.]
CAVI Comments: Type D. The Grr. done from the sketches on p. 279. The phi's must be the
essential markers to fit the lid to the pyxis. For a similar chest, but with the
lid closed, see Munich 2726A (CAVI 5348, where the subject is not mentioned).
