- CAVI Collection: Palermo, Museo Nazionale 12,480.(1).
- CAVI Lemma: RF oinochoe. Eretria Painter. Third quarter fifth. 435-430 (Lezzi-Hafter).
- CAVI Subject: Arrival(?) of a youth(2): Pandion before Prokne and two other women.
- CAVI Inscriptions: Πα[νδι]ο[ν]. [Πρ]οκνε. Θεώ. Χρυσε[ις]{3}.
- CAVI Footnotes: {1} or 1280? (Beazley). {2} ARV[2]; in AJA, Beazley says: `Pandion pouring
libation before departure', and compares Syracuse 30,747 [RF bell krater by the
Dinos Painter, ARV[2] 1153/17, A: warrior (Pandion) leaving home.] The problem
is that Pandion appears as a youth before his daughter Prokne. L.-H. agrees with
the idea of departure. Robertson (1992), 237 discusses the names. {3} Gabrici
differs in two names: Παν̣[δι]ο[ν]. [Χ]ρ̣υσε[ι]ς. Χρυσεις, ARV[2].
- CAVI Comments: = Palermo inv. 1280, 12,480, N.I. 484. Formerly: Museo S. Martino alle Scale.
According to L.-H., the inscriptions are no longer visible. Pandion son of
Erichthonios was the father of Prokne: so why is he shown as a youth? For the
subject see Kron (1976), 117, and E.B. Harrison, Hesp. Suppl. 20 (Thompson
Festschrift, 1982) 72-75. L.-H. in AK discussed the vase and at that time
thought it early; she compared it with Agrigento V 1568 (same shape).
