CAVI Subject: On the body: stars, garlands, wreath. In the handle zone: wave pattern and
egg pattern. All applied.
CAVI Inscriptions: On the BG rim in large applied letters, horizontal and without a break:
Καστωρ Πολυδευ{ι}κης.
CAVI Comments: The kantharos has a rattle. GMusJ considers the inscription a dedication to
the Dioscuri. For the shape see Sparkes–Talcott (1970), 117-19. The rim may have
had a rattle in it; for bibl. on these, see Schreiber note 9. - The letters are
ornamental in the sense that the majority are smallish and raised, with some
taller and going below the line: I underline the short raised letters:
καστωρπολυδευικης [[κ, α, ω, λ, η, ς]]. Ionic alphabet.
CAVI Number: 5027
AVI Bibliography: Tsountas (1885a), pl. 5, fig. 4. — Summa (1981), lot 16. — Schreiber (1999),
124, pl. 9, bottom (exc. ph. of A).
