CAVI Lemma: Fr. from neck of amphora. From Athens. Unattributed. Date unclear.
CAVI Subject: Decoration not preserved.
CAVI Inscriptions: On the neck, Gr.: καραβο{1}.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} suggested by Klaffenbach.
CAVI Comments: καραβος is a horned beetle, or a crayfish, or a light ship. Klaffenbach
obviously thought this indicated the contents of the amphora; but is the amphora
coarse ware? - Graef–Langlotz lists under mercantile. The writing is very
irregular and probably quite late.
CAVI Number: 1717
AVI Bibliography: Graef–Langlotz (1925–33), ii, no. 1544, p. 129 (dr.).
