Decoration: I: EROTIC, ZEPHYROS (WINGED YOUTH) AND HYAKINTHOS WITH LYRE
Last Recorded Collection: Boston (MA), Museum of Fine Arts: 13.94
Publication Record: Beazley, J.D., Attic Red-Figure Vase-Painters, 2nd edition (Oxford, 1963): 1570.30 Buitron-Oliver, D., Douris, A Master-Painter of Athenian Red-Figure Vases (Mainz, 1995): PL.53, NO.82 Carpenter, T.H., with Mannack, T. and Mendonca, M., Beazley Addenda, 2nd edition (Oxford, 1989): 389 Kéi, N., L'esthétique des fleurs, kosmos, poikilia et kharis dans la céramique attique du VIe et du Ve siècle av. n. ère, ICON 22 (Berlin and Boston, 2022): 10, 499, PL.5 (INCL. CAVI Lemma: Fr. of RF cup. From Cerveteri. Related to Douris (see below). First quarter
fifth. 500-490.
CAVI Subject: Int.: fragmentary: Eros carrying an eromenos{1}. Ext.: plain.
CAVI Inscriptions: Int.: to right of the latter: [Χαιρεστρα]τ̣ος κα(λ)ος{2}.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} erotic scene related to type γ in Beazley (1947). Shapiro thinks the Int.
is Eros and an undentified eromenos, not Zephyrus and Hyacinthus, as Beazley has
it; cf. Boston 95.31 (but the figures here are upright, not horizontal). {2} the
ph. shows: above the lyre, following its top, diagonally downward: [--]τος κα...
CAVI Comments: Free replica of Boston 95.31, ARV[2] 443/225 (q.v.), by Douris; the style
related to Douris (Beazley). B.-O. apparently attributes to Douris himself. Cf.
also Berlin 2305. - καλος slightly separated. The lambda miswritten.
