  • CAVI Collection: Malibu 90.AE.36.+
  • CAVI Lemma: Fragmentary RF cup. Douris. Kleophrades, potter. First quarter fifth. Ca. 490 (GMusJ).
  • CAVI Subject: Int.: Departure of Triptolemos with Eros present. In the zone: chariot race. A: Achilles and Troilos. B: battle with Athena present, perhaps Achilles and Hector.
  • CAVI Inscriptions: Int.: above Triptolemos: [Τ]ριπ{π}τολ[εμ]ος, retr. At right, next to a wing: Ερ[ος]. Behind the chariot: [εγ]ρα[φσεν], retr.{1}. Under the handle B/A: Φαιδριας{2}.
  • CAVI Footnotes: {1} this should be a Douris signature; the name is lost. {2} B.-O. thinks this may be from a potter's signature. I rather think it is a kalos-name, the kalos being lost (see above).
  • CAVI Comments: + numerous other frs. at Malibu. For the connection of Malibu 87.AE.43 and 90.AE.36, see B.-O. 60-61. R. Guy suggests that some frs. may be from a replica, to which a fr. with the inscription [Δει]φοβος may belong. Phaidrias occurs on Louvre C 10,917+ and perhaps the fr. Leipzig T 3637; see ARV[2] 1605. The attribution to Kleophrades is based on the similarity with the signed Douris cup Berlin 2283.
  • CAVI Number: 5030
  • AVI Bibliography: True (1991), 139/17 (not ill.; the 88 new frs. only). — Buitron-Oliver (1995), 17, 60-61, 75/36, pls. 147-48.
  • CAVI / AVI Data from Henry Immerwahr's Corpus of Attic Vase Inscriptions (CAVI), updated by Rudoph Wachter's Attic Vase Inscriptions (AVI)
