CAVI Lemma: Fr. of BF cup{1}. From Athens. Unattributed. Last quarter sixth.
CAVI Subject: Int.: mounted archer.
CAVI Inscriptions: Int.: starting to right of the horse's hind hoofs, facing the margin and
originally running along it, with [κ]αλος ending above the horse's croup:
Αθεν[--- κ]αλος.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} "Not as one might think from a bilingual cup of type A: the foot was of
type C." (Beazley, ABV).
CAVI Comments: Graef–Langlotz, thinking the vase could be contemporary with RF vases
praising Athenodotos (Proto-Panaitian Group, Onesimos, Peithinos, Colmar
Painter), follows an earlier restoration: Αθεν[οδοτος κ]αλος, but Beazley
obviously rejects this, since in ABV he prints: Αθεν..., [κ]αλος [I do not
understand the comma]. A long name is however required.
CAVI Number: 1103
