CAVI Lemma: RF lekythos. From Gela. Pan Painter. Second quarter fifth. 470-460. Late
(Beazley).
CAVI Subject: Eros flying and catching a fawn.
CAVI Inscriptions: To right of his face: καλε. Under the foot, Gr.: ΣΟ [[lig.]]. Johnston
(1979), 86/33A 20.
CAVI Comments: Beazley (in CB) says the fawn is male; hence the καλε does not refer to it.
Could this be vocative: καλε (short e)(?). The Gr.: the omicron is attached to
the tip of the three-stroke sigma (CB prints the ligature the other way round,
with the sigma on top, perhaps correctly); Johnston's rendering seems wrong.
