CAVI Lemma: Fr. of RF kyathos{1}. From Athens. Brygos Painter. First quarter fifth. Late
(?).
CAVI Subject: Youth seated, playing the lyre and singing; triglyph frieze and columns;
flute case.
CAVI Inscriptions: Starting from his mouth in an upward curve(2): nonsense: ολονονο{3}.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} called `Becher' by Graef–Langlotz. {2} `spruchbandartig,' Graef–Langlotz.
Graef–Langlotz, reads ννυνννν, wrongly (`Der Brygosmaler scheint zu seiner
ersten Zeit Analphabet gewesen zu sein'); `praeludierend,' Peek, who gives the
correct reading.
CAVI Comments: Nonsense here imitating a song: the nonsense letters νονο are common for the
Brygos Painter. - Beazley does not say this is late, but `nono' inscriptions are
mostly by the late Brygos Painter.
CAVI Number: 1392
