CAVI Lemma: Fr. of WG lekythos. Achilles Painter. Ca. 450 (?). 460/55-450 (Oakley).
CAVI Subject: Mistress and Maid: woman to right (head missing) with offering tray; woman
seated on a chair to left, holding out an alabastron.
CAVI Inscriptions: Between the two, at top, remains of a two-liner, perhaps stoich., only the
last letters of two lines being preserved: [Λιχα]ς | [καλο]ς{1}. The letters are
in the same stoichos. - Beazley and Oakley print the sigmas as 4 and `C', but
the ph. shows 4 flat and S 11 (see the chart in AttScr).
CAVI Footnotes: {1} so Oakley as against Beazley's [--]ς [καλο]ς; I do not know on what
authority. The two lines are fairly far apart but only two sigmas are preserved
so that it is unlikely that we have a three-liner with the father's name
(Samieus).
CAVI Comments: Done from ARV[2]. Four-stroke sigma printed.
CAVI Number: 1915
AVI Bibliography: Photo DAI(A), neg. no. AT VAR 749. — ARV[2] (1963), 996/133. — Oakley (1997),
138/183, pl. 100A-B (B shows the letters).
