CAVI Lemma: WG calyx krater. From Agrigento. Phiale Painter. Ca. 450.
CAVI Subject: A: Perseus and Andromeda: P. gazes at A. tied to three stakes. B: woman with
a scepter (Cassiopeia?) moving toward another woman.
CAVI Inscriptions: A: high above Perseus and a bit to left: Περσευς. To right of his head, the
first line a bit higher, left-aligned stoich. three-liner: Ευαιων | καλος |
Αισχυλο. High above Andromeda's head: Ανδρομεδα.
CAVI Comments: The kalos-name Euaion is found written in mythological scenes that could be
used in tragedy, since he was a poet or actor (or both) - these thought inspired
by productions in which he participated; so Trendall–Webster (1971: 4f.). See
Robertson (1992), 207 who does not commit himself. - Second white used.
