CAVI Lemma: foot of cup{1}. From Thera. Unattributed. 550-500 (?) (Johnston).
CAVI Subject: No figured decoration.
CAVI Inscriptions: On the resting surface, a Gr. in a complete circle around the outer rim:
:κυλίφακτος hα Ἀθλίωνος το̃ Ἡγησιλόχο̅{2}.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} used as a lid on a Corinthian pyxis. Johnston says: BG(?) pyxis. {2} the
interpoint is squeezed in between the last and first letters which are very
close.
CAVI Comments: The inscription is not Attic, but not Theran either. Island Ionic? The
punctuation marks the beginning; it has no space of its own. Cf. London B 196,
which has the Gr., underfoot: κυλιφα:(?)Κ. Kontoleon had read: κυλίφακτος
Ἡραθλίωνος το̃ Ἡγησιλόχο. kyliphaktos is a vase shape; see Johnston.
CAVI Number: 7687
