Last Recorded Collection: Athens, Agora Museum: P2030
CAVI Collection: Athens, Agora P 2030.
CAVI Lemma: Fr. of roof tile glazed on one side. From Athens.
Unattributed. Early sixth. *Agora 21, 17/D 6, pl. 7 (dr.).
*Vanderpool, Hesp. 8 (1949) 407/d, pl. 60.
CAVI Subject: Undecorated.
CAVI Inscriptions: On the glazed side, in an up-and-down curve, Gr.:
Γοργιας h ο Σ(1[49])βαρ? ιος?, retr.(1)
CAVI Footnotes: (1)so Lang. Vanderpool read: Γοργιας h ο Σιβακιο, retr. Neither
reading quite conforms to the photo. (in Hesp.) or the dr.
(in Agora 21), but the letters are coarse and hard to identify.
V. omitted the final stroke, but his reading of kappa is better
than L.' tailed rho (this is very early for tailed rho), so
perhaps: Γορ(γ)ιας h ο Συβακιος?? Closed heta.
CAVI Comments: NOT A VASE. Name-on-sherd. I wonder if the inscription is
not Boeotian, with adj. for the Patronymic.
