- CAVI Lemma: Fr. of spouted plastic vase (aidoion). From Athens. Unattributed. Early
fifth.
- CAVI Subject: Fr. of spout in the form of a phallos.
- CAVI Inscriptions: Gr. "in the dry clay": Κερκιω[.]{1}.
- CAVI Footnotes: {1} so Hesp. But it could be complete: Κερκιω = Κερκιο (gen.), an owner's
inscription. The vase appropriate to the owner's name. LGPN ii reads Κερκιος.
Probably after firing. The omega is rectangular.
- CAVI Comments: Vanderpool notes that this is a telling vase; he rightly cites κερκος =
phallos. The writing is coarse. For the use of omega V. compares an ostracon of
Themistocles, Hesp. 5 (1936) 40, fig. 39, but it is not clear to me what value
he gives to it.
- CAVI Number: 1873
- AVI Bibliography: Davidson–Thompson (1943), 159/114, fig. 71.
- CAVI / AVI Data from Henry Immerwahr's Corpus of Attic Vase Inscriptions (CAVI), updated by Rudoph Wachter's Attic Vase Inscriptions (AVI)
