- CAVI Collection: New York 40.11.2.
- CAVI Lemma: WG pyxis with lid. From Greece. Painter of London D 14. Third quarter fifth.
435-430 (Lezzi-Hafter).
- CAVI Subject: Lid (mostly gone): lower parts of six Muses(?). Body: six Nereids (women's
quarters).
- CAVI Inscriptions: Lid: in front of a seated figure: ...ε...{1}. To right of a standing figure:
[Μελ̣]π̣ο̣με̣ν[ε](?). Body: beside a Nereid with a folded garment: Β[εροι]ε̣.
Above the head of woman seated on a stool: Γ(α)λεδε, miswritten for Γαλεν̣ε{2}.
Above the head of a Nereid with a glass alabastron and a box: Κυ̣μοδο̣[κ]ε. To
left of the middle of the Nereid with a diadem: Ακτε[ι]ε. Above the woman
holding a laurel wreath: Γλαυκε{3}. Above the head of a seated woman: Ψαμα̣θε.
- CAVI Footnotes: {1} part of a name; could also be ...ε or Ε... . {2} The first is my reading
from the photo in AJA; the second is from Richter's text. The alpha resembles an
eta; the delta is dotted (perhaps the dot is accidental and we have an
incomplete nu). {3} Γ̣λα̣υκε, Richter (1940), but the letters are all there.
- CAVI Comments: The inscriptions done after AJA. Mixed alphabet.
- CAVI Number: 5658
