CAVI Lemma: RF lekythos. From Agrigento. Terpaulos Painter (probable) (Beazley){1}. Early
fifth.
CAVI Subject: Arming: seven figures, one with chariot. Boardman suggests Seven against
Thebes; Tiverios agrees.
CAVI Inscriptions: On the reserved lip, in BG: καλος hο παις{2}. Numerous nonsense inscriptions
between the figures.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} connected with Sappho and Diosphos Painters (Haspels), cited without
comment by Beazley in ARV[2] 308/5 who attributes as probably by the Terpaulos
Painter. {2} the photo (among Beazley's photos) show only: σhοπαις (probably the
same picture as that in Haspels). Beazley does not seem to support this (see
ARV[2] 308/5). - Haspels, pl. 21,b and c seem to show letters on the figures: χ
and ν, also traces of other inscriptions ; but I could not find any ref. in
Haspels to the numerous nonsense inscriptions.
CAVI Comments: Beazley in CVA, GB 3, compares to Oxford 33 and gives other parallels for
inscriptions on top of mouth. Haspels, pl. 21,a, shows ]ς hο παις vacat; hence
the inscription is not a full circle; the whole text is given on p. 70 in
Haspels).
