CAVI Lemma: Miniature amphoriskos imitating an SOS amphora. From Pharsalos? Unattributed.
First quarter sixth.
CAVI Subject: No figured decoration. Three reserved lines around the widest part of the
body.
CAVI Inscriptions: On the shoulder, in large letters, making more than a half-circle, facing
out, Gr.: Φιλέταιρος :* μἔδο̅κεν :* Nικύλ[λ]ο̅ι, retr.
CAVI Comments: A perfume vase. Neck and handles are missing. I believe the inscription is
Attic; Philetairos is a good Athenian name (see LGPN ii). A similar amphoriskos
with a gift inscription is in the Kanellopoulos Museum in Athens, q.v.
CAVI Number: 7983
AVI Bibliography: facs.
