CAVI Lemma: RF amphora. From Ruvo. Group of Naples 3235. Second half fifth.
CAVI Subject: A: Dionysus with maenads and a satyr. B: Theft of the Palladion [so Burn, but
see below]: Helen stands between two heroes armed with spears and swords
(Diomedes and another [Sthenelos? Beazley]).
CAVI Inscriptions: A: the satyr: Σιμος. The maenads: Διωνη. Θυωνη. B: [Ε]λενη. Diomedes{1}.
...ειο{2}.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} his name must be inscribed. {2} this should be Odysseus, but as Burn 64
n. 29 points out, it is hard to convert the letters into his name. [Also, there
is obviously no palladion preserved in this scene. Contrast Naples 3235 where
the palladion is shown. Note that Beazley suggests Sthenelos for the third
person, i.e. he is not thinking of the theft of the Palladion. Did he read:
[--]ελ̣ο[ς](?)]. Moret follows Jahn in considering the scene a genre scene.
