Remarks: Shell antefix with head of black woman wearing diadem, earrings, necklace, and chiton. Diam circles on shell 2.6-3.8. Tested TL- okay. Finish on back equal to Pyrgi examples and not found elsewhere. Said to have been in Collection Virgi 1947-1968, then London art market 1982. Listed in "Acquisitions 1983" of Getty Museum Journal 12 (1984), p. 255.

Paint: Red-brown circle centers and dots alongside circles, hair, eyebrows, lids and pupil outlines and center, dots on earrings, chiton inner band, lower squares and stripe on base, upper line on sleeves of chiton, diadem decoration, volute eye 7.5R 4/4. Cream slip as ground for shell and chiton and base, necklace decoration, eyeball, earrings ground 10YR 7/3-8/2. Black raised edges on strigil, circle outlines, volute, skin including ear and neck, dot pattern on chiton, upper band and squares on base, diadem decoration, pupils. Diadem decorated with top band of black with white dots, next band of white with red dots, solid red band, solid white band, solid black band. Tongues red with black central vertical bands and dividing bands. Earrings are cream with red dots.
