CAVI Lemma: RF cup. Ambrosios Painter. Last quarter sixth. Ca. 510 (Bothmer).
CAVI Subject: Int.: a nude young athlete, pouring oil into his hand from an aryballos; at
right, two spears and a discus in its bag hung up. Ext.: plain.
CAVI Inscriptions: Int.: in white: Μνα[σ]ιλας{1}.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} reported by Cahn to Beazley, in Attic letters. Bothmer has ΜNΕΣΙΛΑ in
Ionic letters (unlikely for the Ambrosios Painter). If the latter is right, it
could be genitive of Μνασιλας.
CAVI Comments: Ex Malibu S.82.AE.19. Ex Bareiss 230. Is Mnasilas the name of the athlete or
a kalos-name without kalos? Mnasilas must be a foreigner.
CAVI Number: 5020
