  • AVI Record Number: 7748
  • CAVI Collection: Trieste S 525.
  • CAVI Lemma: RF oinochoe (mug). Painter of Philadelphia 2449{1}. Second quarter fifth. Ca. 480 (CVA).
  • CAVI Subject: At left, a nude young athlete squatting, with one halter in right hand, his left hand raised (without another halter); in front of him, a pick axe.
  • CAVI Inscriptions: To right of the top of his head: καλ[ο]ς{2}. Below the last two letters of kalos: [h]ικετες. . . . / . / . . . . . .
  • CAVI Footnotes: {1} a follower of Makron. {2} so the photo, which is not very clear. CVA prints κανος, but the third letter looks more like a lambda; probably a misprint. The omicron does not show in the photo but is given in the text as extant; it is probably there.
  • CAVI Comments: Rather large letters. The position of the inscription is unusual. Has the athlete just landed, having lost one of his halteres? He is certainly not in the starting position.
  • CAVI Number: 7748
  • AVI Bibliography: ARV[2] (1963), 815/5 (wrong number S 425), 1583/3: wrong number 5525 (w/o the S). — B.M. Scarfì, CVA Trieste 1, Italy 43 (1969), III I, pl. 5,4-5. — Add.[2] (1989), 292.
