- CAVI Lemma: Fr. of large open BG bowl. From Athens. Unattributed. Late fifth.
- CAVI Subject: Undecorated.
- CAVI Inscriptions: On the Ext., just below the rim, in a taenia with tassels(1), Gr.: [ο δεινα
τοι Ηφαισ]τοι ^ ανεθηκεν.
- CAVI Footnotes: {1} I think the taenia is incised too. Only the tassel at the right is
preserved, but there is a vertical divider after Ηφαισ]τοι. {2} not entered in
CAVI, as no number is given here and it is not a vase.
- CAVI Comments: For the vase shape, cf. Agora P 10,577, Sparkes–Talcott (1970), 241/70, pl.
4, dated 425-400. For inscriptions in a taenia see the Jacobsthal Festschrift
and Dow (1930), 63-72, pls. 1-2. The restoration was suggested by V.&S. (as "not
the only possible one"), after a dedication to Hephaestus on a roof tile(2)
found about 20m away (Hesp. 8 (1939) 214-15); it is followed by Lang. A deeply
incised ornamental inscription in clear and even letters. Mixed alphabet.
- CAVI Number: 0443
- AVI Bibliography: Vanderpool and Stamires ms. — Lang (1976), 54/G 7, pl. 30 (dr.).
- CAVI / AVI Data from Henry Immerwahr's Corpus of Attic Vase Inscriptions (CAVI), updated by Rudoph Wachter's Attic Vase Inscriptions (AVI)
