CAVI Footnotes: {1} these readings are from Bothmer. The ff. readings in L.-H.,
Eretria-Maler, differ: Λα̣οδοκη. Κ[ρεοσ]α [sic]. [Φ]υλ̣[ακος]. Αντι[..]ε[--]?
(See above). Α[στυ]οχος. Αρισστομα[χη]. [Τε]ιθρας. Threatte (1996) thinks the
form Λαοδικη is probably due to epic influence. [Actually the vase has Λαοδοκε,
but the point is still valid.]
CAVI Comments: = RC 239. I have not seen pictures of the inscriptions. For the names of the
Amazons, see Bothmer. For the names of the Greeks (mostly tribal heroes), see
AttScr. Teithras is the eponymous hero of the deme Teithras. Gabrici and others
read Αντιανε[ιρα] for the leader of the Amazons, but L.-H. on p. 198 suggests
Antiope, without realizing that the last letter should be an eta, not an
epsilon. For Phylakos see L.-H. 28 and nn. 359-60 as well as Kron. Boardman
discusses the relation to the Shield of the Parthenos (or lack thereof). All
figures are named.
