  • Remarks: Ridge acroterion of Apollo. Mouth rendering unusual with wide upper lip extending beyond lower lip at corner and continuing upper line as ridge at side. Cleft chin. Thick, long spiral locks of hair down back and 2 across shoulders. Prominent pectorals, wide shoulders, thin waist and hips, muscular arm and legs. Short penis projects below drapery. Torso and limbs hollow, including feet. Eyes rendered as flat projections, almond-shaped with lids and tearduct incised. Hole in upper back has finished edges, although chipped in places. Interior smoothed, with clay lumps built up inside head. Support between legs with double S-volutes (lyre pattern). Volute eyes conical equal to antefixes with Silen, female head, Gorgon head. S-volute channels concave with raised edges. Relief double-leaf stacks between volutes (and above, front only). Plinth rectangular with side edges sloping inward at bottom. Lengthwise channel in plinth, and hole through support, for rod. Double volutes on back have no relief leaves between spirals; instead black painted lozenge, with smaller one above. Relief leaf at sides and bottom interstices, as on front. Right foot extends beyond plinth at front, left toes overlap side. Th wall 1.7. W mouth, lower lip 5.3, upper lip 6.3. H left ear 5.8, right ear 7. W left eye 4.9, right eye 4.7. W shoulders 53.5. L right upper arm 24.5, armpit to elbow. Diam 11.5 flexed muscle. L knee bottom to ankle bone left 37, right 36.8. L foot 26.3, big toe to heel. Th plinth 5.5-5.8. H double volute 36.5, W top 25.5, bottom 29. W concave S channel 4.6. W plinth 38, L 59.5. W channel through S-volute base 7. W hole through double spiral support 7.1, H 7.5. Smaller double S-spiral on back, H 28, W top 23.6, bottom 26.8. Support decorated with S-volutes: W 29.4, D top 17.2, bottom 23.5. Large hole in upper back, H 15.5, W 8. Must have had cover with strand of hair. Clay brown with finer surface layer, Th 0.2 of buff color. Individual spiral locks across forehead broken off, revealing finer clay used for surface and details like curls. Restoration and cleaning in 2004.

  • Paint: Dark brown/black skin, hair, edges of mantle, edge of chiton neck and sleeve, base/support, volute eyes, dots on fillet and outlines of above and below. Cream eyeballs, chiton, mantle, spirals, fillet 10YR 6/4. Lighter brown: edges of S-volutes, alternating leaves between volutes, outline of leaf to either side of volutes, and spine of leaf at bottom. Traces of red around chiton neck and sleeves, on both, inner stripes 2.5YR 5/6.
