CAVI Lemma: Frs. of RF plate. From Athens. Brygos Painter. First quarter fifth.
CAVI Subject: Komast with his stick.
CAVI Inscriptions: Nonsense(?): along margin at left, facing it: [---]εε[.](.)εν(ς̣) εκ[---]{1}.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} the third extant letter consists of three dots arranged in the shape of a
triangle. The sixth letter is considered a doubtful digamma in Graef–Langlotz;
the dr. shows that the paint (and glaze?) has come off here, leaving a shape
resembling Σ or possibly a U-shaped digamma.
CAVI Comments: Frs. a - b. This inscription (there may be two, as there is a vacat) is in
clear letters according to Graef–Langlotz's dr. and is not a Brygan nonsense
inscription. The three-dotted `letter' (see note 1) may show that it has been
copied by the painter from an original without understanding (cf. AttScr (1990),
174, n. 5).
