CAVI Inscriptions: A: on the black band above, in one line: Grr.: Πυργιον κ[αλος] Σακονιδει
δοκις. Πυργιον κ[αλος Σακονιδει δοκις].
CAVI Comments: Beazley's restoration; he takes the second iota of Σακονιδει to be a sigma
corrected to an iota; δοκεις may have been written correctly in the missing
part; the style of the drawing is not the same as on vases signed by the painter
Sakonides. For δοκις see Threatte (1996), 511-512 with ref. to i, p. 191 (iota
for epsilon iota). But the intended form may be δοκει. Attic alphabet. The Gr.
is apparently written by an Athenian (Sakonides is not the vase painter
Sakonides).
