  • CAVI Collection: Chiusi, Museo Arch. Nazionale 1794.
  • CAVI Lemma: BF amphora. From Chiusi. Priam Painter. Last quarter sixth. Early (Beazley). Ca. 510 (CVA).
  • CAVI Subject: A: Departure of Amphiaraus: A. mounting a chariot; driver, his head turned back; behind the horses Eriphyle with a small boy (Alcmeon); in front of the horses a young warrior (Eupolemos?). B: Artemis mounting her chariot, with Apollo citharoedus, Hermes and Leto.
  • CAVI Inscriptions: A: from Amphiaraus' mouth to the driver's helmet: αναβα{1}. Around Amphiaraus' shield, in front of his body: Ανφιαρεος, retr. To right of Eriphyle's head, curving around one horse's head: Εριφυλε. Above the boy: [Αλ]κμεον{2}. To right of a young warrior's legs, along the right-hand margin: Ευπολεμος{3}. B: to right of Artemis' body: Αρτεμιδος(?){4}. Along the cithara of Apollo: hερμο(?){5}. Above Hermes: Απολ[λ]ον. The names reversed (misapplied). Between Leto's and horses' legs: Λετου[ς]{6}. Under the foot, Gr.: ΣΟ, with three-stroke sigma.
  • CAVI Footnotes: {1} surely spoken by the driver, but the inscription is not retr. {2} Αλκμεον, CVA, but there is a repaired area on the left. {3} so CVA, but I read in the photo [.]λ[.](ν)πολεμος, with reversed nu, and thought of [Τ]λ[ε](ν)πολεμος(?). Eupolemos is a historical, rather than a mythical, name. {4} ARTEMIDS, CVA, surely in error. Or Αρτεμιδ[ο]ς? {5} HERM[O]N, CVA! {6} so the photo. CVA has LETON!
  • CAVI Comments: A. Johnston thinks that the Gr. refers to Sostratos, the Aeginetan trader: see Johnston (1972), 416-23.
  • CAVI Number: 3164
