CAVI Footnotes: {1} First half of seventh (Jeffery, implied by Lang). Seven or sixth
(Vanderpool).
CAVI Comments: I think that the inscription is clearly sixth century. -Vanderpool thinks it
is perhaps a vote for the banishment of Peisistratus the tyrant delivered in the
Areopagus; it could also refer to P. the archon in 669/8; see further, pp.
407-408. Further, Hesp. 8 (1939) 63, and Annuario 3-4 n.s. (1941-42) 118-24.
There is no external evidence for the date [of the Gr.], the only diagnostic
letter is alpha, which looks early with its curved leg; parallels exist in 7th
cent. vase inscriptions (so Vanderpool; but see AttScr (1990), 23/79 and 132
(shape 8)). Three-stroke sigma (once) and four-stroke (twice).
