- CAVI Lemma: BF LM [[lip]] cup. From Vulci. Unattributed; Mule Painter (Schauenburg){1}.
Third quarter sixth. Ca. 560 (CVA).
- CAVI Subject: Int.: jockey on horseback; a hare cowering below. Ext.: lip: A: bull attacked
by two panthers and two lions. B: bulls and cows.
- CAVI Inscriptions: Handle zone: A: χαιρε : και [πι]ει ευ. B: χαιρε : κ[αι] [πι]ε̣ι ευ{2}.
[[According the ph. in Schauenburg, B reads: Χαιρε : κ[.]ι̣ε̣ιευ]]
- CAVI Footnotes: {1} by the same painter: Unlocated, Private, BF lip cup, BADB 774.
Schauenburg (1974), 199f., figs. 1-3 (all). [[Now: 3804]] {2} the space between
kappa and epsilon seems about 1/2 letter space longer than that on A; hence the
restoration κ[αι πι]ει seems too long [[quite true]], though not impossible.
Beazley's reading is not quite right.
- CAVI Comments: = GR 46.1864. This is clearly the vase mentioned by Schauenburg (1974),
198ff., and cited in AttScr (1990), 48 n. 44; he reads ει as 2nd sg. of the verb
`to be'. - My comment: this and the `Unlocated' cup have similar epsilons and
general ductus, but `Unlocated' has a normal rho with a large head. The chi's
are higher and separate from the rest of the inscriptions. I think both cups are
written by the same hand. - S. has a long discussion of the relations of the two
cups.@@[[Diameter: 142.]]
