CAVI Lemma: Fr. of BF Panathenaic prize amphora. From Athens, Philopappos Hill, 1961{1}.
Unattributed. Hellenistic. Second century.
CAVI Subject: B: column shaft on which the hoof of a horse to left.
CAVI Inscriptions: B: to left of the column shaft, at some distance (no doubt along the left
margin, which is not preserved, and probably kionedon): [---]θ[---]{2}.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} found with the Adeimantos amphora, q.v. (CAVI 198a). {2} M.-P. thinks the
theta is from αθλων, probably because the horse's hoof places it low.
CAVI Number: 1879a
AVI Bibliography: Metaxa-Prokopiou (1970), 98, pl. 31,2.
