Polykleitos

Bronze statue. Munich, UniversitätA Greek sculptor from Argos, active about 460-410 BC. He represents an alternative, stockier and more athletic style, to that of Phidias at Athens. His figures and the proportions he recommended for them in his book (the Canon) were more influential than the Phidian. His Doryphoros expressed the ideal figure (the Canon). He also made major cult statues - a chryselephantine Hera for Argos.
