A tribe living in Thessaly in northern Greece, ruled by Peirithoos. At Peirithoos' wedding, Centaurs attacked the Lapith men and women, and had to be driven off by the groom and his friend Theseus (a battle known as a
Centauromachy).The Lapiths fought both at the feast, with domestic utensils, and later in pitched battle (see Kaineus).
