Greek god of healing. He was not a regular member of the Olympian pantheon and his worship began seriously only with the 5th century, especially at his sanctuaries in Epidaurus and on Cos. In art he appears as a bearded man, with a staff and snake, often with his daughter Hygieia (Health).
