Aeschines

Plaster bust of Aeschines, Ashmolean Museum Cast Gallery, Cast No. C211An Athenian orator (about 397-322 BC), rival of Demosthenes. His political role was largely in opposition to Demosthenes' implacable dislike of Macedon, which was effectively infiltrating Greece diplomatically and militarily under Philip II. Aeschines looked for reconciliation and peace. Several of his speeches are preserved, and regarded as models of the Attic style.
