The Temple of Artemis at Ephesos
The first stone temple of Artemis at Ephesos, an Ionic temple built on the site of several older buildings around 560/550 B.C., and one of the seven wonders of the world, was sponsored by the legendarily rich Lydian king Kroisos. After the Artemisium had been destroyed in 356 B.C. by Herostratos, it was rebuilt in marble, and embellished by Skopas and Praxiteles.
