Etruscan and Central Italian Architectural Terracottas Online Database
This database is included in the Classical Art Research Centre's resources thanks to the generosity of Dr Nancy A. Winter. The database is founded on a revised and updated version of the material in her landmark volume, Symbols of Wealth and Power: Architectural Terracotta Decoration in Etruria and Central Italy, 640-510 B.C. (University of Michigan Press, 2009 [MAAR Supplement 9]), but includes also material down to the 2nd century BC. The paper and photographic archives from which this database was compiled are now accessible in the Museo delle Antichità Etrusche e Italiche at Sapienza University of Rome, Italy.
The database comprises nearly 8,000 records. It is searchable through more than 100 criteria (Advanced Search) or a more restricted range of 7 criteria (Standard Search). Enable 'autocomplete' or use the drop-down lists to see which search terms are acceptable.
Most of the high-resolution drawings and plans are available for publication without restriction. Other images are under copyright and are watermarked. Full details.
