III Mainly Hellenizing subjects
26. Sea deities and subjects
On some related sea subjects in Spain, R. Olmos in Ephialte (Vitoria-Gastiez, 1989) 23-*
A. Man with trident and fish
The figure is naked and usually walking. The attributes are as for a Poseidon, but the figure is usually not bearded. Compare the 'Hermes' figures.

C. 'Triton'
The figure, often bearded, may hold a wreath or fish, or make an adoration gesture. The fish bodies may be stippled or cross-hatched; fins are shown. The physique is that of a Greek archaic Triton (LIMC VIII) which is not a subject for Greek archaic scarabs.

D. Shells, crabs
The subject of a warrior in a shell is, in classical art, later than its appearance in this series. The archer in a crab may be a somewhat irreverent version of the archer-god in a sun-disc: a hellenized Ahuramazda ?
