18. King or god fights humanoid
The quarry is a small, mainly human, sometimes more demonic figure, of a type seen elsewhere in Phoenician and Cypriot art where he seems to be simply a 'wild man'. In these groups he may personify some objectionable entity that the king disposes of, or is generically the despised enemy. Culican, AJBA 1 (1968) 86-7, suggests identification of the protagonist as Baal or Melkart. For versions with a Greek warrior attacking see 28/132,136 and cf. 21/7.
