  • AVI Record Number: 3613
  • CAVI Collection: Florence 91,456.
  • CAVI Lemma: RF cup. From Orvieto. Unattributed{1}. Cachrylion, potter. Last quarter sixth.
  • CAVI Subject: Int.: Eros flying over the sea with a sprig. Around the tondo, intentional red. Ext.: Deeds of Theseus. A: Sinis, Minotaur, Procroustes. B: Skiron, Cercyon, bull. Ext.: intentional red below the figured area.
  • CAVI Inscriptions: Int.: starting above the head and continuing above the body: κ^αλο^ς, upside down rather than retr. Below him and above the exergue (which represents the sea), certainly upside down: hο παις. A: Χαχρυ[λιον] εποιεσεν εποεσε{2}. B: Χαχρυλιον εποιεσεν. καλος. Further down: hο παις{3}.
  • CAVI Footnotes: {1} two related cups listed in ARV[2] 109. {2} complete aft. See ARV[2] and cf. Threatte (1980), 328. {3} done from CVA, text, which does not have ναιχι. (ARV[2] has: Χαχρυλιον [επο]ιεσεν, καλος, ναιχι.) The question is whether the kalos is written as a continuation of the signature as on some LM cups (see CVA, Munich 10), or whether it is separate, giving hο παις καλος. There is a space before καλος.
  • CAVI Comments: I assume that the inscriptions on B are separate.
  • CAVI Number: 3613
  • AVI Bibliography: A. Magi, CVA, Italy 30, Florence 3 (1959), pls. 78,2-3, 79,1-2, 80,1-4 and 116,5 A, B (much bibl.). — ARV[2] (1963), 108/27. — Add.[2] (1989), 173. — Koch-Harnack (1989), 74, fig. 54 (Int.). — Esposito–De Tommaso (1993), 51/68-69 (Int., A) (shows letters of Int.).
