CAVI Lemma: Fr. of cup-skyphos. Unattributed. Fourth.
CAVI Subject: No subject is mentioned.
CAVI Inscriptions: Under the foot, along the outside edge, in two curved lines, left-aligned:
Γοργίας φιλ̣ε̣[ῖ Τά]μυνιν | καὶ Τάμυνις Γ̣οργίαν φι[λεῖ].
CAVI Comments: The vase is Attic, the inscription is not. Both lines are written by the same
person, Gorgias; Beazley thinks it is a trochaic tetrameter, with the second
φιλει added; Porson's law is violated; the upsilon is long: the papyri spell the
name Τάμουνις, cf. Syll{3}. 1266. The name is found in Egypt, apparently as a
woman's name, although Pape seems to refer to the masculine.
CAVI Number: 5869
AVI Bibliography: Edgar (1898–9), 56/115. — Beazley (1927a), 352/15, fig. 3.
