- Remarks: Unique antefixes from Paestum in form of life-size busts of draped females with cover-tiles attached at back. Heads lost; only shoulder to waist remains. N. Bookidis suggests placement in pediment as on Etruscan temple model Andrén 1940, p. XXXII, Figs. 5-6. In 1907, only small fragment found near Athena Temple. 1953, large piece excavated. "Probably represent dancers." "Architectonic conception of figure rather than sculptural to suit its purpose, which is architectural." Sestieri: "Antefixes decorating pediment are not an exclusively Etruscan practice. Besides Nemi model, models from Fratte and Sabucina show them. Also Paestum antefixes, which are definitely attributable to this location for technical reason. Must be many more instances which can't be known now for certain because they are identical to species from the sides of temples."
