Research Assistant for Beazley Archive Pottery Database

Grade 6, £26,527-31,644 per annum (pro rata)

The Classical Art Research Centre is seeking a highly motivated and talented pre-doctoral or post-doctoral researcher to work on the Beazley Archive Pottery Database (BAPD) - the foremost online resource for the study of ancient Athenian painted pottery. The post is fixed-term (12 months), but there is some possibility of extension, subject to funding.

The post-holder will have a central role in expanding and enhancing the BAPD as well as carrying out work on related projects. The role comprises three main elements, the balance of which may change according to circumstances. (1) Surveying new publications in order to update the image-bibliographies on BAPD records and create new records for Attic pottery; (2) scanning and processing fascicules of the Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum for CVA Online, integrating data and images into the BAPD; (3) researching Sir John Beazley's digitized notebooks and integrating some of the material into the BAPD as part of the Beazley Notebooks Project.

The successful candidate will have a first degree in a relevant subject, together with experience of research and academic bibliography specifically relevant to ancient Athenian pottery and a high level of self-motivation so as to work efficiently and independently. S/he will have strong IT skills and very high standards of accuracy.
