CAVI Lemma: Frs. of RF cup. From Athens. Makron. First quarter fifth. Hauptwerk II
(Kunisch).
CAVI Subject: A: voting on the arms of Achilles.
CAVI Inscriptions: A: fr. a: to right of Agamemnon's forehead: Αγ[α]μεμνον{1}. To right of
Nestor's back of head (a voter to whom A. gives a psephos): Πυλειδ̣[ες] (see
below). Fr. c: to left of Tydeus' arm, following it: Τυδευς. Fr. e: to right of
Antimachos' back of head: Αντιμαχος. Frs. f (3 separate frs.): to right of
Diomedes' forehead: Διομεδ[ες]. By the hand of Athena who holds a lance:
[---]γ̣ν̣{2}. Fr. g: above outstretched arm of Ajax: Αι̣[ας].
CAVI Footnotes: {1} so dr.; Graef–Langlotz's text has Αγαμεμνον [[indeed, and wrongly!]]. {2}
the first letter unclear; the inscription abuts against the hand; it is not
mentioned in Graef–Langlotz, but shows in the dr.
CAVI Comments: Frs. a - g. Low mu's seem to be characteristic of Makron. Beazley in
`Lectures': Nestor is called Pyleides; Tydeus is a slip of memory; Antimachos:
cf. Quint. Smyrn. 12.323.
