  • CAVI Collection: Paris, Louvre G 38.+
  • CAVI Lemma: RF cup. Painter of Louvre G 36. Cachrylion, potter. Last quarter sixth.
  • CAVI Subject: Int.: athlete, seen from the back, rubbing oil on his arm; at left, a bundle of clothes on a step; at right, a column shaft(?). Ext.: very fragmentary: A: concert: in the center, feet of two (? see below) persons on a platform; at left, a crouching male; at right, a youth, listening. B: concert or recitation: in the center, a draped male (Giroux thinks, singing); at left, a draped male leaning on his stick; at right, a bearded man with his stick seated and stretching out his right arm toward the `singer' (a judge?).
  • CAVI Inscriptions: Int.: around the figure: Χαχρυλιον εποιεσε{1}. A: at left, near the margin: [καλ]ος, retr. Between the platform and the right-hand figure: [--]α[--]. Between the right-hand figure and the palmette: ναιχι. [Surely: [καλ]ος [hο π]α[ις], ναιχι.] B: before the `singer': hο παις. Under the arm of the bearded man: καλος, retr. Above the same arm: να[ιχι].
  • CAVI Footnotes: {1} complete aft (Beazley).
  • CAVI Comments: + two Louvre frs. No nu-moveable; cf. Louvre G 36, by the same painter. Blösch reads εποιεσεν, with nu-moveable. Giroux says that it is not certain that there are two figures on the platform on A; it could be one person with one foot a bit forward [I think so too]. B is rightly considered a school scene by Giroux.
