CAVI Collection: Vienna, Kunsthistorisches Museum 3702.+
CAVI Lemma: Frs. of RF cup. Manner of Antiphon Painter (Beazley); Pistoxenos Painter
(Williams){1}. Second quarter fifth. Beginning fifth (Eichler).
CAVI Subject: Int.: hoplitodromos(?): fr. a: greaved legs and a helmet held out (presumably
held by the nose guard as in other pictures of hoplitodromoi). Fr. b: part of a
shield seen sideways. Both frs. show parts of the maeander.
CAVI Inscriptions: Int.: starting to right of his waist, vertically down, nonsense (4 imitation
letters show){2}. / Int.: fr. b: [h]ο π(α)ι[ς καλος].
CAVI Footnotes: {1} Beazley att. the Vienna frs. and the fr. in Leipzig to the manner of the
Antiphon Painter.; the Dresden fr. (giving the head) was unattributed. {2} so it
seems from the photo, but Williams does not mention any inscription and I am not
quite sure that these are letters. Eichler seems to have on one Vienna fr.: [h]ο
π(α)ι[ς καλος], with alpha lacking the cross stroke.
CAVI Comments: 2 frs. in Vienna. + Leipzig T. 607. + Dresden AB 431. All joining. Alpha
laccks the cross stroke.
CAVI Number: 7954
