CAVI Collection: Toronto, Royal Ontario Museum 963.59.
CAVI Lemma: BF/WG lekythos. Kephisophon Painter. Ca. 500.
CAVI Subject: Five athletes.
CAVI Inscriptions: To right of a boxer(1): Ολυ[ν]πιοδορος. Similar, for a jumper: Μεγακλεες. To
right of the discus thrower's forehead: Σπινθαρος. To left of the runner, who
faces left: Διον, retr. Similar for a javelin thrower: Πιθις, retr., for
Πυθις{2}.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} so CVA. {2} cf. Threatte (1980), 261; ii, 722. LGPN ii lists Πιθαιος from
BCH 64-65 (1940-41) 233 as kalos separately from Πυθαιος, but I wonder if it is
not a phonetic misspelling similar to Πιθις for Πυθις.
CAVI Comments: For the names see Immerwahr (1982). Dotted delta.
CAVI Number: 7731
